5 So what is the Industrial Revolution?
The Industrial Revolution spelled a time of great change. It marked the movement for most people from the countryside and an agricultural way of life to the cities where they earned a small wage in the factories or mines. Production of goods rose dramatically as Britain tapped into raw materials that it imported from overseas colonies and therefore it became one of the wealthiest nations in the world. It occurred mainly between 1750 and 1900. There was also a great deal of political, economic and social change during this period and many things that happened have shaped how we live today. This is what we are going to look at in this unit.
