Yitzchak is nice. CONTEXT and COMMENTARY Setting Up and Connecting Your Textual Evidence

2 Yitzchak says, “Little is what I have heard, but what you have here is no little girl. She is a young lady…And you are feeling better? I see good color in your cheeks” (Yolen 37). WHAT IS THE CONTEXT? Yitzchak walked in and drank coffee. He brought a gift for Shmuel. OR Yitzchak came early with his kids to see if they needed help. Are these examples just events, or do they set up the quotation?

3 Yitzchak says, “Little is what I have heard, but what you have here is no little girl. She is a young lady…And you are feeling better? I see good color in your cheeks” (Yolen 37). WHAT IS THE COMMENTARY (NICE) Chaya’s parents have died, and she has been sick. Now she finds herself living with her aunt and uncle in a completely different place. This must be difficult for her. The way Yitzchak greet her might make her feel more comfortable. Kids like to feel grown up, and his comment compliments Chaya in that way and also compliments her appearance. This is a nice introduction because it shows Yitzchak has thought about Chaya’s situation, and he is helping her feel more at ease.
