1 National 5 History: Pre exam
Pupils will have completed several unit assessments in class to ascertain that candidates are placed at the correct level. These are informal and created by the class teacher based on previous exams and specimen questions provided by the SQA.

2 National 5 History: Assignment
This is an extended piece of work which must be done under exam conditions on a pre specified date. Pupils will have chosen their question and have completed research on their choice. They will then have written draft responses which will be advised upon, but not marked, by their teacher. Please try to ensure that pupil attend on the date decided upon as it is extremely difficult to arrange another suitable time. (Those who have missed their assignment sitting in the past have seen a very negative impact on their mark.)

3 National 5 History: Exam
Consists of 3 units; Scottish –The Era of the Great War, British – The Atlantic Slave Trade, -1807 European & World – Hitler and Nazi Germany Completed in one sitting of 2 hours and 20 minutes

4 National 5 History: Exam
Each unit will have a variety of question types; Describe, 4 marks Explain, 6 marks To what extent, 9 marks Evaluating the usefulness of a source, 5 marks Evaluating how fully a source has described/explained an event, 6 marks Comparing sources, 4 marks

5 National 5 History: Exam Revision
Reading and working with class notes Creating mind maps/spider diagrams/lists Practicing exam style questions (Booklet/SQA website) Using marking schemes to fill gaps in knowledge Handing in questions to be marked Nothing new NEEDS to be purchased. Pupils have everything they require.

7 National 5 History: Exam Revision
How can you support your child? Attendance is key. Catching up on missed notes is no substitute for being engaged in a lesson in class. Remind and encourage effort in homework. Encourage at least 1 hour of study per week over and above homework. Encourage attendance at supported study on a Tuesday after school, if possible.
