4. School-Based Break Out Sessions
McKnight Elementary parents ~ remain in the library.
Hosack parents proceed to Computer Lab A ~ connected to the library.
Peebles parents proceed to Computer Lab B ~ out the library door and to the left.

6. How do students qualify for Reading Support?
Criteria developed from the North Allegheny School District administration and staff
Qualifying scores were determined based on multiple measures assessed on the universal screener called aimswebPlus .

7. Grade 1 Qualifying Scores:
ORF ~ Oral Reading Fluency
Students read two fictional stories each for one minute.
LSWF~ Letter Sound Word Fluency
Students say the sounds of visually presented letters, syllables and words for one minute.

8. Grade 2 Qualifying Scores
ORF ~ Oral Reading Fluency
Students read two fictional stories aloud, each for one minute.
Vocabulary
Students identified the meanings of target words by selecting from multiple choice options on a computer based assessment.
Comprehension
Students read six passages and answered multiple choice questions about each passage.

9. Why Not Wait?
Students who struggle with reading prior to third grade are less likely to become strong independent readers without explicit interventions.
Early interventions is most effective.
Reading is the basis for much of the learning in the upper grades.

10. When and where do Title I services take place?
Small group support (5-6 students) offered 4 times per week for thirty minutes
Classes scheduled in collaboration with the classroom teacher
Reading specialist’s room is equipped with multiple types of material for different styles of learning…kinestic, visual, and auditory.

11. How will the Title I teachers report progress throughout the year?
Benchmark Reports will be sent home three times a year.
Progress Monitoring Reports will be sent home throughout the year. (Weekly reading checks.)

13. Word Building and Word Lines
These instructional strategies support decoding and word recognition by giving students opportunities to consistently experience and discriminate the effects on a word by changing one or two letters.
Word Building and Word Lines are utilized daily in Title I groups.

14. Syllasearch
An instructional strategy designed to support student development of multisyllabic word decoding.
Break long words into small parts and decode syllables and then place syllables and blend syllables into words.
Utilized primarily in second grade.

15. Small Group Reading of Text
Consistent system ~ start with student to my left and go clockwise
Book Flat
Finger Track
One student reads…and then all students echo read
No comments during reading ~ focus on text
No picture clues
No guessing words
Other students are NOT allowed to assist with word recognition
Questions AFTER reading not during

16. Home Connections~ways to grow as a reader
Lending Library and blackline books will be sent home weekly to reinforce phonics skills.
Literacy Apps will be provided to families.
Be sure that your child see YOU read!
Reading Calendars
Set aside at least 15 minutes to read with your child consistently at least five days a week.
Record minutes on your reading calendars and turn calendar in at the end of each month.
