2 Objective Rationale Today we will preview a unit
Determine the point of view (perception) of two different characters and how that adds to a story We need to understand that people often have different points of view based on the amount of information they have been exposed to, which may or may not be the truth, and their own biases RL.7.6 - Analyze how an author develops and contrasts the points of view of different characters in a text. RL.7.1 Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. SL.7.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions

4 Definitions Perception -a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression. Reality -the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them.

5 Essential Questions How is perception different than reality?
How does our background knowledge, prior experiences, and biases develop our perceptions? What are the dangers of looking at life through perception and not reality? To what extent can perceptions be dangerous?
