Aquatic vs. Terrestrial Organisms
October 20, 2015 Notebook Page 32
2
Warm Up & Spiral October 20
What happens to water after it precipitates? What is the difference between a river basin and water shed? Why is non point source pollution considered bad for our local water supply? Objectives: 8.E.1.1/1.2/ and 1.3 -TSWU structures of the hydrosphere including estuaries and different species found within. Essential Question: -What is an estuary? -What is the difference between aquatic organisms and terrestrial organisms.
3
Warm Up October 21 What is an estuary?
Why are estuaries so important to humans and other living organisms? How does runoff lead to eutrophication? Objectives: 8.E.1.1/1.2/ and 1.3 -TSWU structures of the hydrosphere including estuaries and different species found within. Essential Question: -What is an estuary? -What is the difference between aquatic organisms and terrestrial organisms.

Estuaries and Food Chains October 15, 2012 New Warm Up Page-30
1. Using your knowledge of food chains, create a diagram of a food chain containing the organisms listed below. Use arrows to show that organisms are eaten by other organisms. heron (bird), grass, frog, cricket 2. Quickly sketch a drawing of each organism. 3. Label which organisms are producers and which organisms are consumers. 4. What is the difference between a food web and a food chain?
5
Warm Up October 21 What are two types of estuaries?
Why are estuaries so important to humans and other living ecosystems? Objectives: 8.E.1.1/1.2/ and 1.3 -TSWU structures of the hydrosphere including estuaries and different species found within. Essential Question: -What is an estuary? -What is the difference between aquatic organisms and terrestrial organisms.

What’s an AQUATIC creature?
An organism that lives in water for most or all of its life.

Food Chains and Food Webs
A way of showing how matter and energy pass from one organism to another. Shows a single feeding relationship between producers and consumers. A model that shows a many feeding relationships within an ecosystem. A food web is made up of many different food chains.
52
Food Chains and Food Webs
Producers Consumers Producers- plants, algae, and other organisms that use photosynthesis to produce their own energy Primary Consumer- organisms that get their energy from plants Secondary Consumer organisms that feed on smaller plant-eating organisms Tertiary Consumer - the topmost level in a food chain that feeds on animals at all trophic levels in the food chain
53
Energy Pyramid- shows the amount of energy at each feeding level.
54
Types of Ecosystems Pond ecosystems Lake ecosystems (Lake Norman)
River ecosystems (Catawba River) Forest ecosystems Rainforest ecosystem Coral reef ecosystem Estuary ecosystems (mangrove forest, salt marsh) Ocean ecosystems (Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean) Desert ecosystem Grassland ecosystem (savannah, prairies) Tundra ecosystem Etcetera………………
