“Chemical Reactions Intro Lab”
A Virtual Lab Honors Chemistry

Instructions Read through the objectives. Using a chemistry text book, answer the questions in the prelab. Then look at the following slides to attain your data for the lab.

Station 2A The burning Bunsen burner is shown below.

Station 2B The magnesium metal is shown in the picture on the left. The picture in the middle is the burning magnesium and the picture on the right is the product after the burning.

Station 3A The sodium hydrogen carbonate before heating is shown on the left. The middle picture shows the substance during heating. The right picture shows the product after heating. Looks the same but new substance!

Station 3B Electricity passing through water shown below.

Station 4A Ethanol is lit on fire as shown below.

Station 4B The mixing of sodium hydroxide and copper(II) nitrate.
Reaction is occurring here. The sodium hydroxide was a colorless solution. Pure copper(II) nitrate

Station 5A The pure copper(II) sulfate solution is shown on the left. The reaction after 5 minutes is shown on the right.

Station 5B The steel wool (iron) is shown on the left. The right picture shows it when it touches the battery.

Station 6A The reaction between silver nitrate and sodium sulfate is shown below. Both of the original substances were clear, colorless solutions. product

Station 6B The reaction between clear, colorless hydrogen monochloride solution and zinc is shown below.

Due date That’s it. Finish the data table and your predictions and turn in the lab. If you have any questions, see Mr. Fuller in access or after school. Good luck!!!
