1 Aim: What are global winds and ocean currents?
In your notes answer the following questions: List some of the characteristics of air that causes the air to sink. List some characteristics of air that causes the air to rise.

2 - moves air around the planet.
I. Global Winds: - moves air around the planet. Equator (00); generates warm moist air. Poles (900N and S); generate cool dry air Since this air is warm and moist, what is it’s vertical motion? Since this air is cool and dry, what is it’s vertical motion?

3 - This circulation balances/mixes the unequal heating that occurs on our planet.

4 Surface winds: horizontal movement Atmosphere: vertical air movement

5 ESRT – Page 4 II. Surface Ocean Current:
- ocean currents are created by the wind (interaction between atmosphere and hydrosphere) ESRT – Page 4

6 1 - What current flows on the east coast of North America?
2 - What current is located between 400S and 600S? 3 - What happens to cool water currents as they near the Equator?
