2 Unlocking antisemitism
Preparation: Print and cut the following along the dotted lines, collecting the cards together to create one set for a group of students. The blank cards can be used by students to add any additional ‘factors’ they feel are not included.

3 Ghettos. Some people argued that humans could be divided into superior and inferior races. Jews were segregated. Ignorance of the Jewish faith. The overwhelming majority of people in Europe were Christian, so Jews were unusual and different . Forced to live in the Pale. Jews were marginalised. Right wing Germans blamed Jews for losing the Great War, even though German Jews had fought and died for their country. Jews were accused of murdering children to use their blood in making bread for Passover. Jews were blamed for the Black Death. In the late 19th Century the Russian Tsar (Emperor) thought they were the “enemies within”. Christians wanted Romans to convert, so they could not blame Rome for crucifying Christ.

4 Early Christians blamed Jews for the killing Christ.
If Jews changed their religion, they did not stop being Jewish. Money lending. Jews settled across Europe and the Middle East in small communities. Jews were seen as a race rather than a religion. Jews could convert to Christianity and stop being Jewish. Russia takes over Poland in 1815. Some people think the Jews secretly control the world economy and governments. Accusations of magic. Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Jews were forced to do unpopular jobs. Early Christians blamed Jews for the killing Christ. In the nineteenth century some people argue that humans are divided into races.

5 . The Nazis claimed that ‘Aryans’ and Jews were in conflict all the time. Tax collecting.
