1 Principal A Personal View

2 Principal My name is Emile M Fair III and I am interested in becoming a principal in HISD. I have been an educator for the past 25 years. In those 25 years, I have had the opportunity to work in some excellent schools. I have also been given leadership roles which have enhanced my experience, my personal growth, and my perspective as a campus leader.

3 Principal The field of education has changed and continues to change, but the one constant is: “WE STILL TEACH KIDS”. At times we take our eyes off of the target and get caught up in the next great idea. Through my experiences, I have found that the next great idea is not new at all, but very simple: “We must continue to form relationships ”.

4 Relationships Defining relationships simply means: that we must become meaningfully involved in the day to day growth of every student. We must reach out to the other constituents of the school community which include parents, alumni, community members, community businesses, churches, etc.. Reach out and relationship build every opportunity we get.

5 Relationships The most essential relationship in a school community is: FACULTY/STAFF STUDENTS Without a doubt, if the school community is not totally committed to the vision of forming meaningful relationships then all of the conversations we have, all of the new techniques, all of the new development ideas are useless.

6 Meaningful Involvement
Teaching and learning is still a people oriented business and the meaningful involvement of people in that effort is the cornerstone for success in student achievement. As the leader of the school I must create and assure that an atmosphere of care and belief is not only prevalent but practiced daily. As the school leader I must be committed to creating that atmosphere by using every conduit at my disposal.

7 Meaningful Involvement Student Needs
Students in our urban schools must have people that they can turn to and trust. Students in our urban schools must have people that they can believe in. Students in our urban schools must have people that believe in them. Students in our urban schools must be given hope.

8 Successful Schools Faculty/Staff
A faculty/staff committed to putting students first. A faculty/staff committed to a vision to do whatever it takes for every student. A faculty/staff committed to forming relationships with every student. A faculty/staff who have passion, dedication, and enthusiasm for young people. A faculty/staff willing to implement new ideas, concepts and learning styles without fear.

9 Successful Schools Leadership
A leader who is committed to student success. A leader who makes decisions based on what is best for kids, not politically correct decisions, career saving decisions, or decisions that take the path of least resistance. A leader who is courageous enough to infuse a new mentality of hope and belief to every member of that school community.

10 Successful Schools Leadership
A leader who does not cower down to the ignorance and oppression of faculty/staff members, community members, and parents who cannot or will not move forward with a sincere sense of urgency. A leader who is a change agent for the entire school community. A leader who is committed to forming “Meaningful Relationships”.

11 Successful Schools Leadership
A leader who is going to hold everyone in the school accountable for student achievement. A leader who models the philosophy that generating effort can bring about success. A leader must maintain that the school has the power to engage students in meaningful learning. A leader must except no excuses nor listen to explanations for poor teaching.

12 Successful Schools I have been a teacher specialist in charge of discipline at Booker T. Washington High School for the past four years and in that time I have changed the culture of that school. I have implemented a discipline system that literally forces faculty members to be accountable for student behavior. Faculty members must make contact with parent/guardian as the initial step

13 Successful Schools As part of that discipline system faculty members must make contact with parents/guardians to work together for the welfare of that child. I have created a culture where every student knows they will be treated fairly and with respect, but they will be held accountable for their actions.

14 Successful Schools I have created an environment where faculty members know they are supported as long as they follow the procedures in the disciplinary school plan. I have created an atmosphere in the “Office of Discipline”, where students know that I believe in them and will work for them no matter what the offense or consequence to that offense.

15 Principal/Leader I know that I have one thought process that guides my decision making, “what is best for the kids”. I know that I will work tirelessly in an effort to assure that every student is given the opportunity to learn. I know that I am a leader and will be an excellent advocate for kids as Principal.
