1 Selected Passages from Isaiah 5
“Isaiah Speaks to U.S.!” Selected Passages from Isaiah 5

2 A book we would recommend to all but especially to our leaders… Along these lines, Isaiah was never voted one of the “Top Ten Popular Christian Leaders” of his day…

3 God used Isaiah to peel away the deceptive masks of Israel
God used Isaiah to peel away the deceptive masks of Israel. Today God has chosen His Son’s Church to peel away the deceptive masks of America.

4 Purpose: to see how God wants to use His Church to lift the deceptive masks of the United States.

5 I The Matter of MATERIALISM
A. Isaiah 5:8

6 Isaiah 5:8 “Woe to those who add house to house and join field to field, until there is no more room, so that you have to live alone in the midst of the land!”

7 MORE was never enough…

8 I The Matter of MATERIALISM
A. Isaiah 5:8 B. Isaiah 5:9

9 Isaiah 5:9 “In my ears the Lord of hosts has sworn, ‘Surely, many houses shall become desolate, even great and fine ones, without occupants.”

10 There is a little “Material Girl” in each of us…

11

12 II The Propaganda of PLEASURE
A. Isaiah 5:11,12

13 Isaiah 5:11,12 “Woe to those who rise early in the morning that they may pursue strong drink, who stay up late in the evening that wine may inflame them! Their banquets are accompanied by lyre and harp, by tambourine and flute, and by wine; but they do not pay attention to the deeds of the Lord, nor do they consider the work of His hands.”

14 Implication is that there is no time because all of it is being used to pursue MORE pleasure…

15 II The Propaganda of PLEASURE
A. Isaiah 5:11,12 B. Isaiah 5:18

16 Isaiah 5:18 “Woe to those who drag iniquity with the cords of falsehood, and sin as if with cart ropes.”

17 The word used here can be used to describe a vicious, unrestrained dog, much like the dogs recently in the news…

18 II The Blunder of BOASTFUL- NESS
A. Isaiah 5:20

19 Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!”

20

21 II The Blunder of BOASTFUL- NESS
A. Isaiah 5:20 B. Isaiah 5:21

22 Isaiah 5:21 “Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight!”

23 “Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.”

24

25 Conclusion and Summary
