12 MBx Return There are many other activities in which model data can be used throughout the lifecycle. Additionally, each of the previously noted disciplines have many sublayers of processes. For example, MBM can also include Model-Based Inspection. An example of another important area is the Model-Based Supply Chain and Procurement. Other areas are typically only important to specific industries. These areas are generically referred to as MBx (Model-Based for X). Copyright MBD360 LLC 2018

13 MBT&E: Return Once a product has been built it must be tested to determine if it meets the system requirements and its performance evaluated in a real world environment. MBE can provide the data needed to create a test plan and provide a nominal baseline for evaluating test results. This reuse of model data is Model-Based Test & Evaluation. The reuse of model data is especially important to MBT&E since it provides data in a format that can be reused rather than recreated. Reusing data reduces the time required to run the tests and evaluate the results and it reduces the chance of human error. Copyright MBD360 LLC 2018

14 MBSu: Return Many of today’s major systems are designed to last decades before being replaced. This means that they are updated, repaired and maintained many times in the field. Users must also be constantly taught how to operate and maintain an item. By using a MBSu (Model-Based Sustainment) approach, the process can not only be tracked on a per-unit basis, but the core MBD data can be reused to assess the proper repairs and as a basis for field modifications. Additionally, the data can be used to create Technical Publications and in Logistical planning. Copyright MBD360 LLC 2018

15 MBI: Return To verify that a product meets the design requirements, as-produced product data must be inspected and evaluated to determine conformance to the product definition. Model-Based Inspection does this by leveraging PMI defined in the MBD. This can be used to generate the inspection plan, and along with the model geometry, it can aid in the programming of CMM and other automated inspection equipment. It should be noted that this can be considered as a subset of Model-Based Manufacturing (MBM). Copyright MBD360 LLC 2018

16 MBM: Return Manufacturing has historically been the biggest user of the product definition data, however, manufacturing typically must remodel the data or manually enter the data into their machines. MBD allows MBM (Model-Based Manufacturing) to reuse and quickly modify model data, reducing the error rate and time needed to make the part. Model data can also be used to support virtual manufacturing, allowing the entire production process to be simulated and optimized. Copyright MBD360 LLC 2018

17 MBEn: Return The core design must be created and then refined to fit the requirements. Many times this means running computer-based analyses such as FEA and CFD. The process of reusing the MBD to drive these analyses is MBEn (Model-Based Engineering). Leveraging data from MBD greatly reduces the time needed to create the analyses. Also, since the design can be easily modified, many scenarios can be explored in less time. 18 MBSe: Return MBSE starts with operational concepts and requirements and includes models developed up through SRR (Systems Requirements Review) and DAR (Design Approach Review). Examples: architecture models, system of system models, system context models, behavior models, analysis of alternatives and (please add other examples here). In addition to the models defining the solution to be developed at the system level, MBSE also addresses the "Who, What, Why, When, Where, How" of model development: the tracking, control, pedigree, quality and suitability of models used to support decisions (and the resulting decisions) Copyright MBD360 LLC 2018

19 MBDe: Return At the core of MBE is MBDe (Model-Based Design). MBDe is responsible for creating and documenting the overall product definition utilizing MBD (Model-Based Definition). MBDe also evolves the MBD throughout the lifecycle. This not only benefits design by having a virtual representation of the system that can be developed much faster and cheaper than the traditional prototype process, but it also eliminates the need for drawings.
