1 CANES Program 101

2 What is the CANES program?
The goal of PBIS is to prevent the development and the intensifying of problem behavior and maximize academic success for all students. CANES is our version of PBIS at Fitzgerald High School that takes the place of the 3 R’s from the Primary, Elementary and Middle School.

3 How will it affect the school?
As a student at Fitzgerald High School, we will act as CANES. Courteous Accountable Noble Engaged Self-Motivated

4 Courteous polite, respectful, or considerate in manner.

5 Accountable expected to justify actions or decisions; responsible.

6 Noble having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals.

7 Engaged Occupied in learning; present in the moment; on task

8 Self-Motivated motivated to do or achieve something because of one's own enthusiasm or interest

9 Use respectful language and behavior. Keep the restroom clean.

Wait your turn in line. Maintain personal space. Accountable Be on time. Use your time wisely. Get in and out in a timely manner. Follow Instructions Clean up after yourself. Follow student code of conduct. Noble Respect others. Respect other people’s space. Report any misuse. Respect and protect school equipment. Model appropriate etiquette. Use respectful language and behavior. Engaged Be an active participant. Keep it moving. Go to the restroom between classes. Stay on task. Have your lunch number and other needed items. Arrive on time for school. Self-Motivated Take initiative. Be on time to class. Return to class quickly. Do what you know is right. Dress for success.

10 Why should we do it? Research by Rath and Clifton (2004) indicates that individuals who receive regular recognition and praise: Increase their individual productivity. Are more likely to stay with their organization. Receive higher loyalty and satisfaction. Have better safety records.

11 Why should we do it? Students who are doing acting like CANES will earn rewards such as this.
