The Jesuits Kristin Szabo A. Andrade Span308-90 CSUMB Spring2011 My name is Kristin Szabo and I am presenting on The Jesuits.

2 Who are the Jesuits? The Jesuits are a religious order of men who follow the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Jesuits are also known as the Society of Jesus as the term “Jesuit” is usually used to describe the man.

3 Origins of the Jesuits Founded 1534 Founder: Saint Ignatius Loyola
The Jesuits were founded in 1534 by Saint Ignatius Loyola who had a revelation and vision after being injured in battle.

4 Jesuits’ Goals and Contributions to the World
Spread of Catholic Religious and ideas Language/Dictionaries Science Astronomy Trade The Jesuits are important and most remembered in the world as missionaries of the catholic faith. Many missionaries have been all over the world, for instance Japan and China, in hopes of spreading the word of Jesus and converting people into Christians. As a result they have increased relations with other cultures resulting in trade of general goods, knowledge such as science and language. They also spread their word in the process and thus their influence. Not only that Jesuits are known for their founding of universities where they studied language and created dictionaries.
