2 A New Image Flapper: young women who embraced the new fashions and urban attitudes of the day. Began doing actions like smoking, drinking, etc. Women pulled away from the Victorian-style and dressed more rebellious.

3 Opinions of the New Image
The new image of rebellion created a new identity of equality in things such as marriage. Traditionalists in churches and schools had protested the idea of rebellion and the new behaviors of women.

4 The Double Standard Many women were required to observe stricter standards than men. This resulted in women having to choose between the old and new standards.

5 New Work Opportunities
Women were given new roles in the work place, including job opportunities in offices, factories, and stores. Some women took on men’s work, which caused men to fear competition. By 1930, millions of women were earning wages, but still much less than men.

6 The Changing Family Families were reshaped because of social and economic changes. Birth-rates dropped slightly faster due to a higher percent of birth control. Margret Sanger opened the first birth control clinic in 1916 and founded the American Birth Control League in 1921.

7 A Woman’s Role at Home Women were considered “housewives,” where housework and child care was still required as a “woman’s job.”

8 The End Wrap Up of the 1920’s Women
Women fought for equality, and as a result they were given new opportunities for work and the economy. Views of women were reconsidered and the lives of women were forever changed. The End
