Heat Transfer Inside Earth Chapter 1.1 Pages 25-27

2 Heat The energy transferred from a hotter object to a colder object.
The hotter something is, the faster its molecules are moving. Does ice have heat?

3 Conduction Heat transfer by direct contact of particles of matter
Particles bump into each other and transfer their energy heating them up.

4 Climate Radiation The transfer of energy through empty space
Moves in waves Sunlight Open fire.

5 Convection Heat transfer by the circular movement of particles (liquids and gasses) Particles transfer heat Caused by differences in density.

6 How Convection Works Density = Mass / Volume Heated Fluids:
Move faster and bump into other particles They spread out increasing the volume Density decreases.

7 How Convection Works Cooling Fluids Move slower
They come together, decreasing the volume Density increases.

8 What to Work On Make sure Section 1.1 Review questions are completed and turned in! (page 24, #1-4) Read textbook pages 25-27 Answer the Section Review questions on page 27 Questions 1-5
