1 Serve Others: How do I love thee
Serve Others: How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…that Jesus loves Nick Peterson

2 Ways Jesus Loves By meeting practical needs (v.6)
By being with them (v.12-13) By welcoming them in their differences (v.7-8, 12) By restoring Peter from an immense fall (v.15-17) By appointing and gifting Peter to help others (v.15-17) By being sovereign over Peter’s suffering and giving it purpose (v.18-19) By rebuking Peter’s comparison with the call to simply follow him (v.20-22) By loving us first (before we loved him) (v.20, 15:9,12)

3 John 15:9-13 9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you."

4 Galatians 6:10 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

5 1 John 3:16-18 16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

6 Luke 22:31-32 31 "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers."

7 Ephesians 4:32 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

8 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

9 John 21:20-22 20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, "Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?" 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?" 22 Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!"

10 Discussion Questions What struck you most from tonight’s message?
Which of the ways Jesus loves was most helpful to you personally in terms of your relationship with him and receiving love from him? Which of the ways Jesus loves caused you to think about how you ought to imitate that love toward others? Do you have any examples of how someone loved you with Christ-like love?
