3 Summary Back This is a fable about a young orphan girl.
One day, she was walking through a meadow when she noticed a small butterfly struggled to free itself, the deeper the thorns cut into its fragile body, She was released the butterfly from its captivity, the butterfly changed into a fairy. Fairy said “For your wonderful kindness, I will grant you any wish you would like” Girl said “I want to be happy” The fairy said “Very well” ,and leaned toward her and whispered in her ear. As the girl grew up, there was no one in the land as happy as she. Everyone asked her the secret of happiness. She would only smile and answer, “The secret of my happiness is that I listened to a good fairy when I was a little girl” When she was very old and on her deathbed, the neighbors all rallied around her, afraid that her fabulous secret of happiness would die with her. “Tell us, please” they begged. “Tell us what the good fairy said” The lovely old woman simply smiled and said “She told me that everyone, no matter how secure they seemed, no matter how old or young , how rich or poor, had need of me.” Back

Benjamin Franklin (1706 ~1790) He was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. A noted polymath, Franklin was a leading author and printer, satirist, political theorist, politician, scientist, inventor, civic activist, statesman and diplomat. Back

Fragile: Something of a delicate nature and/or easily broken, damaged. Captivity: The state of being kept imprisoned or enclosed. Orphan: A child whose parents are dead.

First grammar is participial construction. Many students don’t know why participial construction is used. the primary reason for using that is linguistic economics. Accordingly, we can omit conjunction, repeated subject and be-verb. 7

8 Grammar Back No matter how~
no matter how~ means same meaning as ‘even if’. Ex) She told me that everyone, no matter how secure they seemed, no matter how old or young, how rich or poor, had need of me. Also we change ‘no matter how~’ clause to ‘however~’ clause. Ex) However rich you may be you should not spend money like water. No matter how rich you may be you should not spend money like water. 10 Opininon Back Is there the secret of happiness?
Before I read the story, I expected that. Because It is a thing that we’re always curious about and we want to have. I thought the meaning of happiness for a long time. Then, One think suddenly hits my head. ‘Everyone had need of me’ this clause means that she was valuable for everyone. Many people think it is the happiness that they have much money, beautiful woman and honor. Why do they seek to have such things? Because they believe that such things make them valuable for some people. But, before we become valuable people for someone, we realize that we are valuable people. That is the secret of happiness. Do you want to be happy? If so, you realize that you are valuable people in the world. Back
