1 Welcome! 5th Grade Math Academic Parent Teacher Team Meeting
Spring 2018

2 Fall APTT - We discussed various ways that your child’s learning would be assessed this year (i.e. Module Assessments, District Common Assessments, STAAR Testing) We discussed strategies and opportunities to help your child become more fluent at their number sense (flash cards, multiplication dice, game hand-outs, etc.) We discussed an online resource, Think Through Math, to help mirror the learning in class that is also aligned with state standards.

3 So what data do we now have to review your child’s learning?
Module Assessments – Sent home in Tuesday folders. Students can work to identify misconceptions and turn in correction sheets to justify understanding. District Common Assessments (Fall, Winter) Tiered results based on performance are recorded in HAC as follows: 95 - Masters Grade Level 85 - Meets Grade Level 75 - Approaches Grade Level 65 - Did Not Meet Grade Level Think Through Math Benchmark Data (available online) Think Through Math Lessons completed (available online)

4 Imagine Math (Formerly Think Through Math)
According to studies conducted by Imagine Learning, research shows 20 on- grade level lessons completed will increase the likelihood of success for a child to “Meet” state expectations on STAAR. Each child has a goal this school year of 30 on-grade level lessons. How is your child progressing in the Imagine Math (formerly Think Through Math) Program?

5 Imagine Statistics* *As of 2/18/2018

6 What does the State of Texas (TEA)expect a 5th Grade student be able to do?
The link above will take you directly to the TEA website. I have also provided a copy of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in this handout packet for your reference.

7 What have we learned, and what do we still have to learn?
Turn in your packet to the TEKS handout and using a highlighter on your table you are welcome to highlight the areas we have learned about as I touch briefly on each of the concepts.

8 What do some Fifth Grade Math STAAR questions look like?

9 Dual coded questions require students to engage in more than one cognitive process

10 TEA released STAAR Tests
Several released tests are available from the TEA Website along with answer keys in both English and Spanish as practice for your child. t/STAAR_Released_Test_Questions/

11 So what do we do now? Set up a Home Access Center (HAC) Account if you have not already done so to monitor your child’s performance in class.

12 Routinely encourage your child to log on to Think Through Math and complete a lesson – set a day or time Monitor their performance to see how they are progressing towards their individual goal Check HAC on regular basis and encourage your child to complete test corrections on Module Tests in a timely manner when tests are sent home

13 Strategies and Ideas to help your child
