2 Essay Prompt Choose one passage from TEWWG and examine how Hurston uses figurative language, characterization, symbol, and/or repeated subjects to build theme. Write at least three paragraphs.

3 Multicultural Novels Multicultural literature reflects only literature by or about people of color. In its broadest definition, multicultural literature is defined as encompassing the multitude of cultural groups in the United States and the rest of the world.

4 The Namesake Author – Jhumpa Lahiri
In The Namesake, Lahiri explores this tug between the two worlds – the Indian world and the American one. That exploration is based in part on her own experiences growing up in America as the child of Indian immigrants. Her fictional counterpart is Gogol Ganguli, who comes of age over the course of the novel and comes to terms with his complicated, multicultural identity.
