read self-selected novels about friendship in Literature Circles
Language/Writing/Vocabulary: This week we will…
use a mentor sentence to apply grammar skills with concentration on simple, compound, and complex sentences
Unit 3 Vocabulary Workshop
research inventions of African Americans and write about how those inventions have influenced our lives. (a few students will be selected to read their essays on morning announcements in February:)
Spelling: utilize dictionary/thesaurus/dictionary.com references
Math: This week we will…
continue to partition shapes into parts with equal areas and express each part as a unit fraction with a denominator of 2,3,4,6, and 8

Spelling:
Assessed through writing. Students are expected to consult dictionaries, peer editors, and computer resources to monitor spelling when writing.
Math:

Please study multiplication facts nightly, especially if your child is not fluent with 1-12 multiplication facts (3- second rule). Fluency with multiplication facts is a critical goal in third grade math. Our goal for Friday’s test is 25 problems in 1 minute and 40 seconds to achieve mastery. Try using mathfactspro.com or mathfactscafe.com for nightly fluency practice.

We are in need of 30 pizza boxes for a kid-favorite enrichment project on fractions. If you would be willing to purchase or donate, please let us know. Thank you so much!
It might be time to replenish pencils, erasers, looseleaf, highlighters, crayons, and markers. This is also a great time to clean out schoolbags and binders and toss old papers.
