Define anxiety and recognize its symptoms Identify stressors that trigger anxiety in me Practice techniques to fight off symptoms of anxiety Create a plan for how to keep anxiety away

3 What is Anxiety? Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension or fear.
The source of this uneasiness is not always known or recognized, which can add to the distress you feel. Specific Phobia: When there is one specific thing you are afraid of or feel stress from Generalized Anxiety: You don’t know why you feel anxious or what is causing it

4 IS STRESS ALWAYS BAD? No! Some stress is good!
Can you think of a time when stress might be a good thing?

5 HOW DO I KNOW WHEN STRESS IS BAD STRESS?
Racing heartbeat Fast breathing Sweat (sometimes on the palms) Headache Stomach ache Nausea WHEN THESE THINGS GET IN THE WAY OF YOU LIVING THE LIFE YOU WERE MADE TO LIVE, THE STRESS IS BAD.

7 Tips and Tricks to Manage your anxiety
So… What Can I DO? Tips and Tricks to Manage your anxiety

8 Tip #1: Cookie Breathing
1. Breathe in for 3 seconds 2. Hold for 3 seconds 3. Breathe out for 3 seconds

9 Tip #2: Imagery 1. Picture something/someone you love
2. Think about how you feel/felt 3. Hold that thought in your mind for 10 seconds

10 Tip #3: Remove and Replace
1. What is the thought? 2. Picture it, and kick it out of your mind! 3. REPLACE it with a positive thought Important: Must know positive thought ahead of time!

11 Tip #4: Is it Rational? Think: Is this rational? What is my mind telling me? What are the facts?

12 Tip #5: Self Care (preventative)
1. What do you like to do? 2. What are you good at? 3. Schedule these things into your life

2. Answer: What is the stressor? 3. What tip would you recommend to this person?
