You Can Add!

 Two or more numbers that are added to find a sum

Remember: Commutative Property of Addition Changing the order of addends does not change their sum. Ex. A + B = B + A

Associative Property of Addition The grouping of addends does not affect their sum. Ex. (a + b) + c = a + (b + c)

a+ (b+c) = (a+b)+c

 5 + (3+4) = (5+3) +4  5+ 7 = 8+4  12 = 12

 a+(b+c)= (a+b)+c  2+ (1+5)= (2+1) +5  2+6=3+5  8=8

 Use the following numbers to create your own addition problems using the associative property of addition.  2, 3, 4  5, 6, 2  8, 1, 3

 Did you do the following?  2+ (3+4)= 92+3) +4  5+ (6+2) = (5+6)+2  8+ (1+3) = (8+1) +3
