3. How does it help to meet the needs of people in Africa?
The UN has different organisations which help in different ways. We will study 2 of those organisations:
U.N.I.C.E.F. (UN International Children's Emergency Fund)
W.H.O. (The World Health Organisation)

4. What does U.N.I.C.E.F do? helps children in need
improves mother and child health care
organises emergency relief after a disaster

5. Scottish film star Ewan Mc Gregor is now a UNICEF ambassador – he will try to get the publics attention to problems UNICEF is trying to help. He decided to do this after he met a group of street children, some as young as 2, living in underground passages in Russia

6. Case Study of UNICEF in action
Around the Darfur region of the Sudan where there is major fighting going on, there are thousands of people living in refugee camps
UNICEF sent one camp over 80 tons of aid
Aid included food, medicine, water cleaning equipment and tents.

Train local health workers
Immunise people against diseases like polio

In Africa, WHO is carrying out a immunisation campaign
It is going to immunise 300 million in Africa and Asia against Polio
It aimed to wipe out Polio by 2005
