1 Forms of energy Chapter 5 section 2

2 Objectives Explain how an objects mechanical energy is determined.
Name some forms of energy associated with the particles that make up objects.

3 Key terms Mechanical energy Thermal energy Electrical energy
Chemical energy Electromagnetic energy

4 Mechanical energy Mechanical energy: the form of energy associated with the position and motion of an object. You find the mechanical energy by adding the objects kinetic energy and potential energy. Mechanical energy = potential energy + Kinetic energy This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA

5 Other forms of energy Forms of energy associated with the particles of object include thermal energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy, and electromagnetic energy. Thermal energy: the total potential and kinetic energy of the particles in an object. Electrical energy: the energy of electrical charge. Chemical energy: the potential energy stored in the chemical bonds that hold chemical compounds together. Nuclear energy: energy stored in the nucleus of an atom Electromagnetic energy: the energy of light and other forms of radiation.
