10 Rome Laws of the 12 Tables: 450 B.C.- Roman Laws were written down and posted in the forum. The tables made it possible for the first time for plebeians to appeal a judgment by a patrician judge. What would happen if laws were not written down for us to see? What would happen if the rules in this classroom weren’t well-communicated or written down? If you are called to go to court, you must go. If you don’t show up, you can be taken to court by force. If you need a witness to testify and he will not show up, you can go once every three days and shout in front of his house. Should a tree on a neighbor's farm be bend crooked by the wind and lean over your farm, you may take legal action for removal of that tree. If it's your tree, it’s your fruit, even if it falls on another man’s land. A person who had been found guilty of giving false witness shall be hurled down from the Tarpeian Rock. No person shall hold meetings by night in the city. A dead man shall not be buried or burned within the city. Marriages should not take place between plebeians and patricians. (As time went on, this law was changed. When the tables were first written, this was the law.) Laws of the 12 Tables

11 Roman Republic 500 BC-27 BC Republic:
Rome Roman Republic 500 BC-27 BC Republic: a thing of the people, government in which the power lies in the people, representatives, and an elected official versus a monarch. Is there a body of people that you are a part of that resembles a republic? Name a document or something you know that includes the idea of a republic. The Roman republic was ruled by senators and existed from 500 BC until 27 BC, when Augustus took power. It eventually led to civil wars and the take-over by dictator, Julius Caesar. Republic: A thing of the people
