4 Why monitor attendance?
There are many reasons why we want young children to come regularly to their Early Years setting. As well as supporting their learning and development, we want to try to make sure that children are kept safe, their wellbeing is promoted and they do not miss out on their entitlements and opportunities. This is why attendance is included in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

9 Sharing books together
“[Stories] provide opportunities to learn new vocabulary and sentence structure, and also to improve listening skills … [Two year olds] need the close proximity of an adult to maintain attention as well as needing to explain the pictures … When adults read a book that they love to children, they tend to use richer voice tones … spend longer looking at the pictures and their enthusiasm conveys itself to the child …” Penny Tassoni “Getting it right for two year olds” (2014:p.98-99)
