Mrs. Beyenhof 6th Grade Math and Science

2 About Mrs. Beyenhof Graduated with Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential from Azusa Pacific University 9th year teaching at DMMS LOVES Math! Married to my best friend, Ken 2 grown children, a daughter-in-law and 5 precious grandchildren 

3 Curriculum Will address the California State Standards
Math - Big Ideas Math Course 1 Textbook Algebraic Expressions, Factors, Properties of Numbers Decimals, Fractions, Factors, and Exponents Ratios, Rates, and Percents Integers and the Coordinate Plane Equations and Inequalities Geometric Concepts, Area and Volume Statistics and Data Analysis Science – CPO Science Textbook and supplemental materials Energy Transfer and Heat Hydrologic Cycle and Weather Conditions Living Things and Body Systems Cells and their Structure Climate Change and its Impact on the Environment

4 Bigideasmath.com This is the website for our math curriculum. Students will be doing the majority of their math homework on this website. Homework assignments will be completed online, with ALL WORK being shown on the appropriate page in the student’s math notebook. Students will have access to many resources, games, and homework help in the form of videos and, in some cases, a live tutor. *See handout for more information

5 Think Through Math (TTM) (Now Imagine Math)
District adopted SUPPLEMENTAL math program. Students must pass 1 lesson per week or as instructed by Teacher – requirement will be increased soon! We will go to the computer lab every Monday for the 1st half of the period so they can hopefully pass at least one per week at school. *See handout for more information

7 Homework Policy Importance of Homework
Reinforces what has been learned Prepares student for upcoming lessons Teaches responsibility Helps student develop strong study habits LATE Homework (online) will receive half credit if turned in by the day of the end-of-chapter test Projects get lowered 1 whole letter grade for each day late (up to 3 days, then it is a zero) Absences Students are responsible for obtaining and completing missed notes and assignments if absent Allowed 1 day for each day of excused absence to turn in missed work, but it is best to stay caught up! Check my website and for assignments, even when absent!

8 Math and Science Notebooks
Need to be brought to school DAILY Should be checked by a parent to see if homework and classroom notes have been completed. Science notebooks will be checked for neatness and completeness at the end of a unit for a grade. Parent Signature is required at that time (signature tells me that you have looked it over and it is complete). *** ***Parent Signature is worth 3 points.

(2) SINGLE subject, college ruled spiral notebooks with hard plastic covers 8 1/2 x 11” or 9” x 11” Need another one for Math, 2nd Semester Composition notebook for TTM journal/Warm Up notebook Pencil box or pouch with supplies listed on my information packet (on my website) Reading book – MUST HAVE DAILY Classroom Donations LARGE boxes of Kleenex College ruled, lined, notebook filler paper Moist wipes to clean desks *Thank you for your generosity with supplies I have received already! 
