4 Financial Information
As of 1st April 2017 the National Minimum wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. For apprentices that are 18+ this is only for the first year of the apprenticeship. After that they must be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age bracket. Many employers pay more than the minimum wage.

5 The Apprenticeship Levy and changes to apprenticeship funding
Large employers with a payroll of over £3 million will have to pay an apprenticeship levy This pot of money can only be used to pay for apprenticeship training Companies have to “use it or lose it” This means that companies may be creating more apprenticeship opportunities and also upskilling current staff Alongside this, apprenticeship funding is changing, meaning that anyone aged 19+ is in the same funding bracket. This should make apprenticeships more accessible for all age groups and at all levels.

6 Routes into Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships
Routes into Higher and Degree apprenticeship will vary depending on the role and level of qualification. C A B “Staff development” through an employer that they are working for Completing level 2 or 3 apprenticeships and then progressing Applying directly to vacancies ensuring they meet the entry criteria

7 Reality Check Higher and Degree level apprenticeships are fantastic opportunities- they will be popular and likely to be highly competitive Unlike courses, there may only be a few positions available (sometimes only one!) Employers are investing a lot of time and money into developing people, they want to be sure it is worthwhile for them We already know that a lot of large employers are using the levy to upskill their current staff- sometimes you’ve got to work your way up!
