“Reading” Narrative
 Write about a moment related to reading or books that is/was important to you. (In this class, we share a common culture of literacy, but you may choose another element of your culture/self-identity if you prefer.)
Choose an incident (or a series of events, a person who influenced you, etc.) that captures your own perception of yourself as a reader (or another aspect of your identity). Then, make sense of the experience—what is the significance?
Write a story with vivid descriptions based on your memory. Remember to use “showing” language that enables your reader to feel as if they were there with you—paint a picture with your words.
Be sure to refer to all of the things that happen in your memory in the same tense, whether that’s present tense (I look at the chalkboard) or past tense (I looked at the chalkboard).
