How to pass N5 History

Coursework All coursework will be completed in class with homework supplementing learning/practising skills. The exam is now 2 hours 20 minutes and an Assignment of 1 hour. It is essential that timed skills practice takes place at home, especially in the run up to the exam.

Course materials Teachers use iPads to enhance learning but also to provide all materials pupils have been working with either via one note or iTunes U – your young person will know what method their class uses. Revision materials will be uploaded when appropriate. Skills questions are available via past papers and teachers will provide updated practice questions.

Textbooks etc We use a variety of textbooks and largely our own materials – they are in depth and updated regularly. Course notes book has been updated and relaunched this year. All topics are covered in suitable detail. Contains practice questions. The success guide is also about to be re-issued. It contains up to date exemplars of each question type and tips on how to answer each question.

Extra support Study support is currently offered on a Wednesday lunchtime, drop-in and bespoke but more can be offered closer to assessments/exams.

How can you help? Consistent revision is the key – if your young person has no specific homework can they be going over their folder notes? Ensure they’ve nothing missing? Do they remember and understand everything? As the course progresses can they redraft earlier essays? Assignment time: in November we will be completing our N5 Assignment. It is worth 20% of the course mark and will require research at home as well as in class. Engage interest and read round subject – look out for our reading list! - watch documentaries, films on the topic (with caution, of course!)

How can you help? Get them to take breaks. See their pals, go for walks, have a chill! Our courses will be available online – but iPads are a supplement to their own notes and class work! Take a break from. The blue screens. Leave the technology away from the bedroom overnight!
