3 Do Now 9/15/15 List at least three factors that affect the performance of an enzyme in a chemical reaction. What is the function of an enzyme? Enzymes are an example of which macromolecule? Define catalyst. What do enzymes do to the activation energy required by a reaction? What does it mean when an enzyme denatures? What do you think the word “passive” means?

No energy (ATP) is necessary for movement of molecules Passive = no energy needed

In passive transport, molecules move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. HIGH  LOW Goes with the natural flow

Diffusion Natural movement of small particles Facilitated Diffusion Channel proteins assist with passive transport of larger molecules Osmosis Natural movement of water

Simple diffusion is the natural movement of small particles High to low concentration Unassisted, no proteins required Continues until equilibrium is reached
