2 Hypertension Hypertension is a disease when you have abnormally high blood pressure. British physician James W. Black invented beta blockers in the 1960’s. These machines turned out to lower blood pressure, which earned him a Nobel Prize.

3 People most affected by the disease
Age Group Gender Cultural Group Hypertension affects far more adults than kids. As of 2015, 75 million American adults had hypertension. Men have higher levels of hypertension and lower levels of hypertension awareness than women. African Americans are at a greater risk of hypertension than Caucasians.

4 Symptoms of Hypertension
Hypertensions has many symptoms including headaches, shortness of breath, chest pains, change in skin color, ringing noises in your ears, nosebleeds, and bloodspots in your eyes.

5 How Hypertension affects the body
Hypertension affects the circulatory system. The disease damages and narrows your arteries. The disease can also damage the heart by having an enlarged left heart and heart failure, as well as other things.

6 Causes of the disease Some causes of the disease can be things from your childhood such as childhood obesity, salt, or premature babies with kidney problems.

7 Treatments and cures of the disease
Some treatments for the disease include weight loss, exercise, reduced electronics, and diet changes. Sometimes, these treatments can end up curing the disease as a whole.

8 Prevention of Hypertension
A couple of ways to prevent Hypertension are to maintain a healthy weight, eat a balanced diet, cut back on salt, and exercise regularly.

9 How the disease affects someone's daily life
If you have the disease, your life can be affected a good bit. Some things you have to do are watch your salt intake, no smoking, watch how much alcohol you consume and exercise more.
