3 How Phosphorus got its name
Phosphorus got its name due to it glowing in the dark, when exposed to oxygen Its name comes from the Greek word "phosphoros" meaning "bringer of light.”

4 Phosphorus discovered
Henning Brand a German alchemist accidently discovered Phosphorus as he was experimenting with urine. He collect 50 buckets of urine because he was trying to turn base metals into gold. Brand’s method is believed to have consisted of evaporating urine to leave a black residue that was then left for a few months. The residue was then heated with sand, driving off a variety of gases and oils which were condensed in water.

5 Phosphorus use Phosphorus is most commonly used in fertilisers.

the US is the world's third-largest producer, after China and Morocco. They mined 27.6 million metric tons of phosphate rock in the U.S The largest and least expensive source of phosphorus is obtained by mining phosphate rock from the numerous phosphate deposits of the world.
