Western Europeans were extremely devoted to the Church Peasants/Surfs- look to the Church for hope from poverty in the afterlife Knights- apart of Chivalry Lords/Nobles and Kings- had to stay in good favor with the church 1. Standing in society 2. Fear of Excommunication
