2 LINKING VERBS are words that link the subject of the sentence to another word that describes it. Lisa is smart. is

LINKING VERBS are often forms of the verb “to be”: am, is, are, was were, be, been Doh. This is confusing! Sorry Homer. You just have to memorize them.

5 Doh. This is even more confusing!
LINKING VERBS can also be words that show a “state of being”. Doh. This is even more confusing! Relax, Homer. You can get this.

6 Homer looks confused. looks LINKING VERBS
In this sentence “looks” is a linking verb because it describes what Homer IS BEING.

7 Homer looks at his doughnut. looks
LINKING VERBS Homer looks at his doughnut. looks In this sentence “looks” is an action verb because it describes what Homer DOING.

8 If the subject is DOING something it is ACTION.
LINKING VERBS Doh! I get it. If the subject is DOING something it is ACTION. If the subject is BEING something it is LINKING. Good job! I think you are beginning to understand.
