1 The ProjectWise Advantage
Gary Cochrane - Information Management Sales Executive Steve Sims - Federal Account Manager

2 …is a system of collaboration servers and services for Owners, Engineers, Architects, and Construction organizations to create and entrust their critical facilities information… …that provides facility configuration management and information re-use, in a scalable, industry-proven, and highly secure environment So I repeat the PW description because it is important. PW is a system…..capabilities. It is important to note that ProjectWise is a family of software products. We group them into 3 distinct areas: work-sharing or content management, content re-use or publishing, and dynamic feedback or review. This theme of share, publish, and review is carried throughout this presentation and in all our marketing material. (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.

3 Project Team Collaboration Challenges
The ProjectWise Advantage 2/17/2019 Project Team Collaboration Challenges Design and engineering content demands are unique Lack of interoperability Large files are difficult to share Different workflows and applications Teams are distributed across offices and organizations Slow and unreliable network connections Different processes and standards Time wasted looking for and validating information Project information is constantly changing Assuring teams have current data Complex, interdependent file relationships Lack of real-time synchronization Slide Purpose: To more explicitly identify typical challenges – and further establish a common understanding of the ‘pain’ with your audience Talking Points: Infrastructure project information needs are different than ‘generic’ information or document management needs The ‘team’ issues are critical, especially given that teams are typically comprised of a collection of distributed and independent discipline or function specific teams/companies. The projects are dealing with ‘work-in-progress’ information that is constantly changing – and managing that change is hard (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.

4 ProjectWise Secures Information Mobility
Facility Configuration Management Content Re-use AECO Information Management Design Team Stakeholders Organizational mobility in a managed environment Continuity in Enterprise lifecycles Dynamic Feedback ProjectWise ensures information mobility because it is a system of collaboration servers and services for AECO information for the design and construction of infrastructure projects while the work is in progress. AECO refers to architectural, engineering, construction and operations. We group ProjectWise software products into 3 categories: work-sharing, content reuse, and dynamic. Work-sharing provides Organizational Agility in a Managed Environment by creating and managing ongoing work-product effectively – where the right people quickly and reliably accelerate work-in-progress using infrastructure tools and workflows of choice. Content re-use maximizes value across the enterprise by informing project stakeholders and enterprise systems in a more consistent, timely and predicable manner using high-impact deliverables. Dynamic feedback ensures Timely and Actionable Participation by synchronizing comments to resolve issues quickly and effectively in a ‘closed-loop’, returning feedback in context to all the relevant designers so as to be actionable. Timely and actionable participation Reviewers (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.

5 Facility Configuration Management
Create and manage ongoing work-product effectively …where the right people quickly and reliably accelerate work-in-progress using infrastructure tools and workflows of choice. AECO Information Management Work-sharing is really the ability for users in a project to work on their engineering and AECO information together. You will hear other terms in the industry like “Drawing content management” or “engineering content management”, “engineering document management system”, etc. (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.

6 Facility Configuration Management
Control Access & distribution Workflows IT & Project Standards Status and approvals Dependencies Organizational Agility Responsiveness Virtualized talent Scalability Reporting KPIs Changes and Audit trails Status Dependencies Filtering, Aggregation Component Information Content type Engineering Models Drawings Specifications Redlines Offices docs Point Clouds PDFs File Formats Assignments and roles Document’s Status Relationships – Reference Files Spatial Location Responsible party AECO Information Management ProjectWise work-sharing offers advantages that are unmatched in the industry that you should definitely highlight in your presentations. Concepts like: Dependencies or reference file management. Any design models in PW can be a composite of different files that may reside in different locations from different authors but PW stiches them together so any changes in one file will get reflected in the overall model and everyone else will see them. Delta file transfer and version control: For big files, delta file transfer can speed-up file access. Version control ensures that files are checked-in and checked-out so you don’t have multiple versions floating in different places. Ability to handle multiple content types – not just word docs, powerpoints, etc. that most other document management systems like Documentum can do but ability to handle CAD drawings, point clouds, specs, etc. Status and audit trails help track the content – who, when and what changed. These are all powerful capabilities that sets us apart from competitors. Pragmatic Work-sharing “Delta File Transfer” Version management (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.

7 FCM: Servers & Services
ProjectWise Integration Server Empower and manage AECO Content and team collaboration ProjectWise Caching Server Solve the geographically distributed ‘big files’ problem ProjectWise Web Server Enable project team member access via a web browser Bentley Transmittals Server Package, register, deliver and track Engineering transmittals It is also important to note the types of software that make up this family of products that we call PW. The main software that users have to always install is the PW integration server. It is the backbone of PW and a necessary piece of PW. If you are using PW explorer on your desktop you would recognize the windows like interface you use to access files in Bentley. That interface is running on PW integration server. ProjectWise explorer type functioanlity is also available on the ipad through other Projectwise Explorer for the iPad app. I refer you to my second VSK for more details on the ipad apps. Other servers, on the other hand, are optional: Caching server enables fast file transfer, Web server enables online access to PW And so on… (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.

8 Facility Configuration Management Example
Let’s start with an As-Built set of Drawings Drawings are available to operations in PDF format Drawings are not under change Drawings are Revision A Operational Personnel only sees Construction Release drawings As-built drawings Work in Progress drawings are hidden by security

50 Trusted Shared Source of Truth
The ProjectWise Advantage 2/17/2019 Trusted Shared Source of Truth Each participant uses their own applications and file formats in their own locations. Word CAD Model PowerPoint Excel Project BIM Database CAD Drawing PDF Slide Purpose: To reinforce the ‘single source of truth’ and introduce ‘Federated’ project data Talking Points: Infrastructure project data is federated – reflecting the federated way in which interdisciplinary project teams work Each participant uses applications that are specific for their tasks and role, for example in the design and analysis of… Structural systems Roadways Site and civil work Water distribution P&IDs HVAC and MEP Design and so on (Feel free to use examples matching your audience) ProjectWise integrates with these applications, and their formats and provides a shared “Single Source of Truth” for interacting with project information A “federated” approach, unlike a “centralized” approach provides the speed and flexibility needed when working with sets of large and interrelated files and data that is federated across multiple sources and locations (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.
