The Clean Air Act by: Christine Dao Per. 2 11/18/10

2 The Clean Air Act The clean air act was made for pollution control . They wanted the citizens to have clean air to breathe and have good health. The clean air act was established to protect against the ozone layer (smog), lead, and nitrogen dioxide. 1963- It provided funds for research in air pollution. 1970- establish the National Air Quality Standards, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, and requirements for motor vehicle emissions. 1977-concerned about the air quality in certain areas. 1990-increased the authority and responsibility of the federal government and raise awareness in toxic air pollutants.

3 The clean air act (continue)
The EPA is responsible for regulation and enforcement of the air quality. “In addition, the EPA sets national standards for major sources of pollution including automobiles, trucks, and electric power plants.” (cleanairtrust). It was passed by congress in 1990 and have been a success for many years. I think that this act is national because it was talking about the United States. It has affected the environment issues by turning it to a better viewpoint because the ozone layer is now controlled and toxic lead has declined, so many people’s health are getting better due to cleaner air.
