4. Setting the Tone
Casie: When you google Thanksgiving, theses are typical images you may see in addition to lots of pictures of a baked turkey on a table surrounded by delicious sides. These images depict a peaceful story of a day where Native Americans came alongside white settlers and shared a meal to give thanks for the harvest. While Thanksgiving is depicted as a “white” holiday in so many images and historical re-telling, for Native Americans the story of Thanksgiving brings so many deeply conflicting feelings and painful rememberings of. This is why many have called it a Day of Mourning instead. Today’s webinar will share an example of how project-based learning can help students discover and understand the Native American story of Thanksgiving and create a product that shares their message with a broader audience.
