What is the definition of the word "atonement"? Our English word (at-one-ment) includes both thee covering and the effect (reconciliation). This involves God’s grace, (Christ’s blood (life achievement) and our faith. Romans3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Romans5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Romans3:28 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Leviticus17:11 For the life (“nephesh”) of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls (“nephesh”): for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul (“nephesh”).

Write out the definition of "redeemer" and then show why a redeemer is required to save mankind from eternal death? A redeemer is a deliverer. Jesus ransom us not by payment but by destroying the power (= the curse [sin is death] of King Sin, Rm. 5:21; Heb.2:14. Undoing what Adam did required a redeemer that a righteous God could forgive sin. God said the wages of sin equals death and to remove the power of this curse required the redeemer to break the curse. To save us Jesus was tried in all points without sinning that all of mankind be represented, then hung on a tree to remove the Law of Moses for it cursed a righteous man . Galatians3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

4. Why was it necessary for Jesus to humble himself and take on the form of a servant? (Phil.2:5-8) Philippians2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: …7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Jesus accepted God’s role for him and humbled himself becoming a servant that he could represent us for we needed a redeemer tried in all points without sinning. Being a servant helped Jesus personally to counter his sin nature but God could have designed an easier way for him if we were not to be saved. Gal.1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

Why was it necessary for Jesus to be made of our nature and die upon a wood stake? Jesus was “made in the likeness of men” that he could redeem all of mankind. Jesus by dying on a tree was the means provided to removed the law of Moses for it cursed a righteous man. Galatians3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

7 A t o n e m e n t Questions and Answers
How did Christ destroy the power of "King Sin" (the devil) by dying upon a stake? (Heb. 2:14) The power was the curse, sin = death. Since the Devil is the personification of human nature, Jesus destroyed its power over him by dying. In addition by being sinless, being tried in all points and having followed God’s plan of salvation he opened the door of forgiveness for all “in Christ”.

8 A t o n e m e n t Questions and Answers
Why is it so necessary for Jesus to be our federal head instead of Adam? When baptised we are “in Christ”, Adam is no longer our federal head and “in Christ” sins can be forgiven. Romans8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

9 A t o n e m e n t Questions and Answers
Christianity believes Jesus is our substitute. Give several reasons showing this idea isn't correct. Substitution requires that Jesus remain in the grave if those in him be raised. Substitution requires the innocent dying for the guilty. We all die with Christ therefore Christ didn’t die instead of us Romans6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

10 A t o n e m e n t Questions and Answers
If Jesus isn't our substitute what is he that we might have forgiveness and be given life eternal? Jesus is our head and those “in Christ” are members of his body and have forgiveness of sin plus heirs of the promises. 1 Cor.12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body … Colossians1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: … Galatians3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
