1 Giving Back in Bolton Project Lead ETAG Presentation Lauren McKechnie – Volunteering and Development Services Co-Ordinator

2 The Scene: Volunteering provides an opportunity for people to be involved in positive, meaningful activity.  It improves peoples self-worth, confidence, skills, increases social inclusion and has been proven to reduce rates of criminal re-offending.  The post holder will work with partners across Bolton and beyond to break down barriers and build capacity for people with a history of offending to become involved in quality, supported volunteering opportunities.

3 The Job: Identify all existing groups and organisation who recruit volunteers with offending history to map current good practice, challenges and resources Develop a suite of tools and resources, based on local findings and need, to enable more groups and organisation to revisit volunteers with offending history. Areas of focus may include; volunteer recruitment processes, workforce attitude, inductions, roles and responsibilities, legal considerations, risk management training, reputation perspective and measuring impact. Develop a ‘myth buster’ resource (potentially video or other media) around involving people with offending history in volunteering Establish 2 ‘peer support’ networks/community of practice; 1 for volunteer coordinators engaging people with a history of offending in volunteering, and the other for people with a history of offending who are volunteering Ensure that people with ‘lived experience; and those working with different categories of offenders are involved in the co-design and development of the programme.
