3 Objectives Analyze a nonfiction text to find the claim and support.
Analyze data for reading packets to assess mastery and weaknesses. Identify and understand the use of adjectives and adverbs in a sentence. Homework: Have a good weekend! Pokemon Go article (If this isn’t finished) and constructed response.

6 Close Reading Analysis
Take out all of your CR answer sheets. Download the Analysis Sheet from Google Classroom. Count up the total amount correct that you answered from each standard. Put that number in the number correct column. Total number of questions: RI1= 10 RI4= 8 RI2= 7 RI5= 8 RI3=7 RI6= 8

7 Close Reading Analysis
Next, write the percent correct in the last column. You will find this by dividing your number correct by the total number of items. After finding all of the numbers, write your strengths (the standards you answered correctly most often) and weaknesses (the standards you missed most often) at the bottom. Write down the reading strategies, found on the next page, for your weaknesses. Turn in when finished.

Get into your pairs and download the worksheet for Adjectives and Adverbs combined. Follow the on-screen instructions and identify how the bolded words are being used. Only work on this assignment. You should be able to have it finished in 15 Minutes. Submit when you are finished and move on to the Pokemon Go assignment.

11 Pokémon Go! Read and annotate the two documents for the following:
Main Idea Argument Claim Support Evidence Tone Bias

12 When finished… Write a constructed response in which you take a side and address the following issue: Is Pokémon a positive force in the modern world or does it have a negative impact on people? Follow the constructed response format on the next slide. Minimum requirements: A claim 2 items of support ( at least two direct quotes from the articles) At least 1 paragraph (6-8 substantial sentences) Make sure you keep in mind current trends, each country’s culture, your experience.

13 Constructed Response Format
Thesis (Claim): Introductory Statement identifying the main point Reference Detail I (Reason) Elaboration/Explanation (Evidence to support reason) Reference Detail II Elaboration ,Significance, Explanation Synthesis: Conclude by connecting all ideas.

14 NOW Get into your 4 person groups and discuss your argument. Discuss your position and come up with a unified response. Be prepared to join another group and address your group’s point of view. Turn in your constructed response before you leave.

15 Closure 3, 2, 1 Write: 3 Definitions: Main Idea, Author’s Purpose, and Tone 2 Weaknesses that you need to work on and how you will change them to strengths. 1 Strength that you excel at.
