3 Twitter Twitter is founded in March of 2006
Founded by Evan Williams, Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass and Biz Stone in San Francisco, CA By July the site was up and running allowing users to send and receive 140-character text messages, known as tweets By February of 2010, Twitter was churning out 50 million tweets per day

4 Web 2.0 Not a change in how the web is set up
Rather, it is a change in how pages are made and how people use them It is about harnessing collective intelligence Characterized by the change from simple web pages to dynamic, user-generated content thanks to the rise of social media. According to the Web2Summit, “ was the match being struck; was the fuse; and 2010 will be the explosion.”

5 The Growth and Dominance of FB
In January of 2009 FB had 150M users, by September 2010 there were 550M and its users spent a collective 50B minutes on FB

6 Online Streaming Hulu founded in March of 2007
Allowed users to watch content online for free, granted that they watch a several ads Netflix, a subscription-based DVD rental service that operated through the mail As the movie rental business was making a downturn, in Netflix began to offer web-streamed content in their subscription-based format This was all possible advances in video streaming technology and the fact that such services were becoming increasingly accessible for the average individual

7 The iPhone The original iPhone was released on June 29, 2007
It was originally available in 4 GB for $499 or 8 GB for $599 It was a phone, a camera, a handheld computer and an iPod all in one sleek device (+ much more) There was so much demand people lined up outside Apple stores days in advance of the initial release

8 The Rise of Crowdfunding
Kickstarter was launched on April 28, 2009 Ventures could be funded through online donations In exchange for donation, donors receive a finished product or other token of appreciation determined by how much they donated.

9 Online Music Streaming
Pandora was an online radio service founded in 2000 For just about 9 years it was on the verge of going out of business Struck gold in 2009 with an iPhone app

10 The iPad The first iPad was released April 3, 2010
It was available in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB You didn’t even know you needed it until…You did. Rather quickly adopted, for use in kiosks, the classroom, the home or office

11 2010 Earthquake in Haiti Showcased how social media, crowdfunding, and crowdsourcing technologies could be used in disaster relief The Red Cross utilized twitter to send message that "You can text "HAITI" to to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts in #haiti.” This tweet raised over 7 million dollars for relief efforts in just 4 days Ushahidi, a crowdsourced app, saved many lives

12 The Information Age By 2010, it was more than clear that advancements in computing technology had made the world a very different place in a short amount of time “The smartphone revolution has moved the Web from our desks to our pockets. Collective intelligence applications are no longer being driven solely by humans typing on keyboards but, increasingly, by sensors.
