1 Kindergarten Week of 8/20 Danielle.Butler@slps.org
Oak Hill -Mrs. Butler, Mrs. Timmons Kindergarten Last week was our first week of school. We spent a lot of time assessing students. We tested letter recognition, (capital and lowercase). We tested letter sounds, sight words, concepts of print. We also had students practice recognizing and writing their names, counting, writing their numbers and recognizing shapes. It was a busy week that left us all exhausted. Now, we will take those assessments and use it to set up reading and math groups. We are also getting to know each other. The students are all beginning to share with us. We are learning the rules of the classroom and how following the rules keep us safe and help us learn. This week we will begin our Alphabet and Math Boot Camp. The boot camp is a way to introduce one letter and one number each day. The activities are designed to have activities that will engage all students from those that are learning letters to those that are beginning to read. We will also be looking to see how well students work hard to complete their assignments and follow directions. We will also be reading stories about FRIENDSHIP. Students will learn how to be a friend to others. They will also learn what it means to be a bully and what to do if someone is being bullied. ABOUT HOMEWORK- All students will be given a homework bag with school supplies to KEEP AT HOME. The supplies are being given so that we all kids have the tools they need to be complete assignments. We will be sending home extra worksheets for children to complete as homework. The purpose is to give students a chance to practice what we have learned at school and to practice responsibility by returning the homework. We do not want the homework to take up too much time in the evening. We feel it is most important that children have time to spend with their families and be a kid. Week of 8/20 Check your child’s folder for information regarding CLASS DOJO and ABCMOUSE.COM. There are also important papers that need to be signed and returned as soon as possible. CLASS RULES Be safe Be a good friend Follow directions quickly Work hard at all times
