2 Mark Speight (of children’s programme SMart)
In the 1990s there was a programme shown on BBC called SMart, an art show for children. When I was young this was my favourite show and the part I looked forward to was with the late presenter Mark Speight who did a section on cartoon drawings . In this part of the programme he demonstrated how to draw in the cartoon form, focusing on facial features, hands, movement etc. With these shows I always replicated what I learnt from it. This was my first influence into the world of illustration, especially cartoon drawing. Image Reference:

3 Sailor Venus Doll (from anime/manga Sailor Moon)
This doll was the start of my interest in anime. I first got it as a gift when I was five from my dad and even though I had no idea what it was at first, I always loved looking at the pictures of the different characters surrounding the box. It was very different to the ordinary dolls I had so it was always treasured. It was not until a few years later where I was able to watch the animation based on this doll, that my passion for this drawing style grew even more and I started designing my own characters based on anime. Even to the present day, I still draw in the anime/manga style from time to time. This was also the pivotal point of when I wanted to pursue a career in design, where from the ages of I wanted to work in animation and also produce character designs.

4 Southgate College (Foundation Art & Design, 2009-2010)
At 18 I realised in realistic terms that I didn’t have the necessary skills and knowledge to work in animation although it was a big dream I had. With this in mind it was difficult to choose what I wanted to do. It wasn’t until I attended Southgate College in North London and did a Foundation Art & Design course that I was able to explore the many areas of this subject, such as fashion, product design and graphics. That was when I found my love for illustration and wanted to do a career on this area of design. This illustration was part of the final major project I done based on London, where I produced an illustrative and interactive book based on areas of London from A-Z. It was my first experience on using Photoshop to create illustrations which I really enjoyed doing and was extremely pleased with the final solutions.
