1 THIRD GRADE CURRICULUM NIGHT
09/13/2018

2 READING AND MATH GOALS All students will receive reading and math goals each nine weeks. These goals will come from the computer programs I-Ready and MobyMax. Goals will be sent home after the students complete a diagnostic test in reading and math. Goals will be based on number of lessons passed. For example they may need 15 reading and 15 math lessons passed by the end of the first nine weeks. We will be working on these programs in the classroom but they will have access at home.

3 HOMEWORK Homework will be given weekly and it is due on Friday.
On Monday of each week, a Dolphin Work Folder will be sent home that requires a parent signature. Daily Behavior is recorded through Class Dojo. Please make sure you connect with your child’s class. Please make sure your child reads every night. The only way to become a better reader is through practice.

4 MATH MATTERS The students will be required to pass an End of Grade standardized test in math. They will need a 3, 4, or 5 to be considered proficient. Multiplication facts are NECESSARY! Please start practicing. We will send home math rings soon. The students must be able to automatically recall the basic facts. A big part of being successful on the end of grade math test is being able to read multi-step word problems.

5 SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES
Science and social studies will be taught in four and half week increments. We are beginning with social studies and focusing on map skills. Science Units are: Earth Systems (land features), Ecosystems, Structures & Functions of Living Organisms, Earth Systems ( earth/moon/sun system), Matter, Energy Transfer, and Force & Motion Social Studies Units are: Map Skills, Our Community, Our Government, Cultures, and Current Events through Scholastic News Many of the passages on the End of Grade Reading Test are nonfiction. We will spend a lot of time in our science and social studies practicing this type of reading and comprehension questions.

6 READING REQUIREMENTS The students must be a Level Q in Dibels testing by the end of the year. The students must pass a state required reading portfolio by the end of the year. The final diagnostic score in I-Ready must be a 537. The students must make a Level 3, 4, or 5 on the End of Grade Reading Test.

7 ATTENDANCE Attendance is extremely important. Research shows a direct correlation between student achievement and consistent attendance. Students should come to school, be on time, and stay until the end of the day.

8 THIRD GRADE REWARDS Students are rewarded weekly for twenty Class Dojo points. These are traded in for rewards in the classroom. Many awards are given at each awards ceremony. Some of these are: Homework Hero, Math Goal, Reading Goal, A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, Citizenship, Principal’s Award, Multiplication Mastery, Cursive, Xtra Math, Attendance, and Car/Bus Rider There will be Fun Friday and a nine week celebration for great behavior!
