Picture this: Hospital staffers fired for sending photo of patient's wounds   /26/2011  A Connecticut hospital recently fired three workers and disciplined four others after a clinician took a photo of a 17-year-old gunshot victim in the ED and sent it to others, the New Haven Register/Boston Globe reports. A hospital spokesperson said the photo was taken with a camera phone after the patient died. The photographer allegedly sent the image to a "small number" of other people, but does not appear to have posted it on the Internet. According to the spokesperson, the hospital employees who were not fired received written warnings, documented counseling, and related education. She said all disciplinary actions took place within 10 days of the incident. "While the patient is unidentifiable in the photograph, the picture was unauthorized and violates our zero tolerance policy relating to patient privacy," the hospital spokesperson said, adding that the hospital "handled the matter immediately and with the severity it deserved." The spokesperson also said hospital officials met with the family to apologize (New Haven Register/Boston Globe, 7/23; Federico, Hartford Courant, 7/22). **remember not to give out any medical information without a signed consent from patient including to other hospital personnel** Extra Call Light The charge nurse and Kristy Bare both have extra call lights for patient use Child Life Specialist Survey
