Breaking down words into its parts
baseword – a real word that when prefixes and suffixes are added to it, it becomes a new word. Ex. – reflect (reflection, reflected) affixes – word part that is attached to a base word in order to change the meaning of the base word. Ex. (un) comfort (able) affix baseword affix suffixes – word part that is attached after the base word Ex. uncomfort(able) suffix prefixes – word part that is attached before the base word Ex. (un)comfortable prefix

Root words – the core of a word. Usually an old word that has come into the English language from ancient lang. such as Latin or Greek. cri - means bitter. Acrimony carn - means flesh. Carnivorous corp - means body. Corporal punishment deca - means ten. Decade erg - means work. Energy gen - means birth. Genesis lum - means light. Luminary sen - means old. Senior tele - means far. Telephone
