2 Activity: you will all get a card as you come in and should move round the room asking each other to identify the thing on your card your sentences should be on this model.

3 Adjectives Adjectives are words that describe things, or other adjectives In Hindi some adjectives, like काला kālā black, change to reflect the number (singular/plural) and gender of the things they describe. In Hindi some adjectives, like लाल lāl red, don’t change to reflect number and gender, they can be called ‘invariable’.

29 कितना kitnā? Your teacher(s) will demonstrate some possible questions and answers about the numbers of things/people in the room and their answers. Then as pairs work out how to ask about the number of a range a things around you. Then we will present at least one question and answer from most groups to the class.

36 Is that your? Activity: ask the person next to you about something they have, point at a partner’s possession and have a conversation like that below. Remember to make the word for your and my change to reflect the gender [and number] of the thing possessed.

Write down two sentences describing things that you have on the model of: यह मेरी घड़ी है। This is my watch. yah merī ghaṛī hai Hand your sentences to your neighbour, they will then have to read out your sentence to the class, pointing to the thing and saying: वह उसकी घड़ी है That is his/her watch. etc. vah uskī ghaṛī hai
