The European nations, especially France, realized that the United States might actually win its war against Great Britain.

3 France who stayed quite at first, declared war on Britain and sent money, equipment, and troops to aid the American Patriots. Spain declared war on Britain in 1779. Why did these countries help the Americans??

5 Valley Forge Washington set up camp at Valley Forge, about 20 miles to the west of the British. Washington and his troops endured a winter of terrible suffering, lacking decent food, clothing, and shelter. Washington's greatest challenge at Valley Forge was keeping the Continental Army together. How did these tough times work to their advantage
